Important factors were instrumental in arriving at the framework of this textbook. Most importantly, CHED Memo Order 2, Series of 2013 aims to expose students “to various domains of knowledge and ways of comprehending social and natural realities.” Relative to this, CHED came out with a 3-unit Purposive Communication course description which states that the “course develops communication competence and enhance students’ intercultural awareness through multimodal tasks that provide them opportunities for communicating effectively and appropriately to a multicultural audience in a local or global context.” Hence, the contents of the book were based from the course outline, topics, learning outcomes and time frame of the CHED Memorandum.
